At The Canterbury Bike Project we run a 4 day City & Guilds “Level 1 Cycle Mechanic”accredited course in bicycle mechanics.

Who is it for?

This is a professional qualification for anyone wanting to work in the bicycle industry who wants an accredited introduction to bicycle mechanics to put on their CV.

It is a professional course with lots of hands-on activities.  You are expected to have a basic knowledge of bikes and bike tools, and the ability to use them.  There is a written element to the course which is assessed.

What does it cover?

The Level 1 course covers four mandatory units:

  • 181 Level 1 – Repair a cycle puncture
  • 182 Level 1 – Remove and replace a cycle rim brake assembly
  • 183 Level 1 – Remove and replace a cycle gear assembly
  • 184 Level 1 – Carry out a systematic cycle check

Each unit is assessed on-site. On completion of all assessments, you will achieve a City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Cycle Mechanics (3902-18).

What should you bring?

The course is taught in our fully equipped workshop in the heart of Canterbury. Each student has there own work station with a comprehensive range of tools. Each workstation is complete with bike stand and bike on which to work. Each workstation also has overalls, gloves, and any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed for the course.  All you need to bring is a pen and notebook.

Course format

The course runs over four (4) full days. You must attend all days and pass all assessments to achieved certification.
