we rely on donations

to continue doing what we do

We need bikes, lots of bikes

donate your unloved bicycle

The Canterbury Bike Project rely on the donation of bikes from generous people like you. To be able to teach bicycle mechanics and to give bikes to those in the community that benefit, first we need bikes to give.

If you’re considering buying a new bike, then consider donating your old bike to The Canterbury Bike Project.  Or if you have an unloved bicycle being neglected in your garage then help us re-home it with a loving family by donating it to us.

We take any bike of any size and in almost any condition. The frame needs to be in good condition, not cracked, dented or rusting away.  We can resurrect most bikes, but some just have to go to bicycle heaven.

To get the bike to us, first hit the button below or message us on our Facebook page with a photo if possible.  Then we’ll contact you to arrange a drop-off. It may be possible for us to collect.

All bikes donated to us pass through our workshop to be assessed, stripped down, and then lovingly rebuilt and repaired with new parts where needed.  So we don’t care too much what condition the bike is in, we care that it is donated to us.

Most bikes donated are given back into the community, some are sold to bargain hunting cyclists typically for the cost of the parts needed to repair the bike. However, as we are a not-for-profit enterprise every single penny we make on these sales is reinvested into the project and goes a long way to securing the future of The Canterbury Bike Project.

Spare some change Guv?

To teach bicycle mechanics for free and repair bikes from the local community for the price of the parts only, we need to fund ourselves.

It’s a fact of life that money makes the world go round, and even with the best intentions to do what we do, costs money.  Cycling and maintenance of bikes should be low cost.  Knowledge should be shared for free.  These are our goals.

The benefits of increasing the number of journeys taken by bike and keeping the community moving, goes beyond the mental and physical rewards.  The reduced traffic and pollution, the saved time.  The knowledge we share through our workshop sessions engage young people in a vocation that can lead to improving their life chances.  The sessions also bring the community together, increasing and improving social iterations. Our family workshop sessions give families a common theme to focus on.

So please help us if you can. Either by leaving a tip if we service your bike, or through a one-off donation, or supporting us by becoming a patreon.

Help fund us, so we can make a difference to local young persons, and the community.
